First, the Home Media Storage solution is built around a very cost effective media server technology. Next, we use state of the art components to integrate your whole house audio system, home theater, and office so they all share the media stored on your mediaserver. By using commercial components that are in widespread use, we can keep the total cost of the integrated system down.

Home Media Storage implements a software RAID 5 solution to balance reliability, performance, and cost. Using software RAID, our products achieve high performance from disk drive data striping techniques while providing reliability through the redundancy feature of RAID. Disk drive striping means that the data from a single file may be written to more than one disk. When the Mediaserver reads the data back, the data can be retrieved from all drives nearly simultaneously, reducing the bottle neck of serially reading data from one drive at a time. Disk redundancy means that if a single drive fails, the lost data can be computed from redundant data stored on the remaining drives.
Home Media Storage uses SATA drives to provide the best value and expandability. Additionally, the smaller SATA cables result in better cooling than traditional ATA and SCSI cables.
