Home Media Storage Background

Home Media Storage was founded in northern California with the sole intent of providing an affordable way for the home user to install a home/office network with vast amounts of media storage that can be shared throughout the home.

Home Media Storage is the culmination of years of work by the founding members in the development of systems and software designed for commercial communications satellites, digital video servers, digital content delivery, and internet related business applications. In the process of developing these computer systems and applications, a set of economical computer tools were consistently used by the engineers to telecommute, develop software, manage audio/video content, and access the internet. The tools proved to be extremely reliable and valuable to the  founders of Home Media Storage. As other computer professionals watched the Home Media Storage server in action, they appreciated its benefits. Primarily they liked the fact that we were getting double duty from the Home Media Storage system - combining home entertainment together with a home office system. Wives, husbands, and children could independently play music, access the internet, edit video or pictures, all without interfering with the business applications being performed at the same time. 

Make it  affordable...

The goal in the design of the Home Media Storage line of servers is to achieve a balance. A balance of performance and reliability against cost. In the corporate world, it is common to spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on data servers with RAID hardware, rack mount enclosures, hot swap components, and redundant power supplies, etc. These are very fine products but they become obsolete very quickly! Its sad to say that a 36 Gigabyte SCSI RAID server that cost $5,000 to $10,000 a few years ago is now obsolete, relatively slow, and has relatively low disk capacity compared to today's standards. Home Media Storage is its own customer and we don’t like throwing away equipment any more than you do, especially when such a large price was paid just a few years ago! What Home Media Storage has done is eliminate some of the redundant components that end up costing you more money, but add very little to end user functionality. We have, however, retained the redundancy required to help prevent data loss from a drive failure. Home Media Storage provides systems that are built from tried and true components that give you years of high performance service at a reasonable price. Do you want complete redundancy? Buy two or three Home Media Storage systems and still beat the cost from some of the competition! Do you want replacement parts? Most large computer component retailers stock the components our company uses in its servers so most computer repair shops can replace a component!

Be a Home Media Storage customer for life. I am pretty sure that three to five years from now, you will consider replacing your desktop computer with the latest and greatest equipment. Take your old PC, put it in the spare bedroom for your guests and children, plug it into the Home Media Storage network, and it continues to serve you, your family, and guests.
